Lily and the Lawman Blog Tour by Erica Vetsch

About the Book

Book: Lily and the Lawman

Author: Erica Vetsch

Genre: Christian Historical Fiction

Release Date: October 13, 2025

A desperate aunt and a duty-bound sheriff—thrown into marriage by necessity, driven by danger, and risking everything to rescue a child…and their hearts.

All Lily Whitman wants is to open her bakery and provide a good life for her sister and infant niece. But when her niece is kidnapped by a ruthless gang, Lily is frantic to get her back. The only one who can help is the new acting sheriff, Trace McConnell. Though she’s sworn never to trust a man again, she finds herself forced to rely on this quiet lawman—worse, she’s forced to marry him to protect her reputation during the search.

Trace McConnell, a man who sees the world in black and white, does everything by the book, and keeps his feelings to himself. He’s dreamed of being a real lawman his whole life, not just a temporary replacement. When a U.S. Marshal arrives with news of a child kidnapping ring, Trace sees his chance to prove himself worthy of the badge. But his new “wife” keeps throwing his carefully laid plans into chaos with her determination to help—and his growing feelings for her threaten to compromise his focus on justice.

Can two people burned by past betrayals learn to trust again in time to save an innocent child? Or will their fears cost them not only their chance at love, but the life of the baby they’re desperate to rescue?

My Review

An exciting read with lots of twists and turns. It takes place in Money Creek, Idaho, in 1883. There is a death, and a baby is kidnapped. Marshall Trace and his brother, Cal, attempt to identify the individuals responsible. More children are going missing and tracking them is difficult.

The story had me hooked from the beginning and was heart-wrenching in some parts, as the kidnappers were ruthless. I enjoyed the banter between Lily and Trace as an unexpected romance happened. Both of them were stubborn and set to do things their way. It is a page-turner for sure with non-stop action. The ending wrapped everything up nicely and was a happy one.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

About the Author

More from Erica

Lily and the Lawman has one of my favorite opening lines that I’ve ever written.

No man should have to arrest his own father—at least not more than once a month.

And so begins Trace McConnell’s adventure to lasting happiness. Trace is a lawman, and his father is the town drunk. He heads out on the trail of some bad men who have kidnapped a baby girl. He doesn’t go alone, the child’s aunt goes with him. Mayhem, danger, and love along the way happen, hopefully leading to a satisfying conclusion for everyone but the bad guy.

But I wanted to talk about first lines in fiction. First lines have to do some heavy lifting! So much responsibility! If you are a writer, you have to consider so many things when writing that first line. Does it set the tone of the book? Does it reveal something up front about the character? Does it make the reader ask a question? Does it make the reader want to continue on to see what happens next?

When I’m writing a new story, I often put in all capital letters in the first draft: WRITE A GREAT FIRST LINE HERE. Then I go on with the opening scene.

You see, there is something intimidating in starting a new story, seeing all the blank, white space where words need to go. And it’s worse when you know how important a first line can be. So I put in a place holder. Often I don’t know what the first line should be until I’m into the story a ways. Only rarely do I know what the first line will be, and even then I often change it later.

When I need inspiration, I peruse my bookshelves to read first lines. Here are two of my favorites, both from the late secular writer, Dick Francis

From To the Hilt: I don’t think my stepfather much minded dying. That he almost took me with him wasn’t really his fault.

From Longshot: I accepted a commission that had been turned down by four other writers, but I was hungry at the time.

Do you have a favorite first line?

My Review

This book is a non-stop, action-packed roller coaster ride, leaving you wondering what will happen next. It had one twist and turn after another, causing Chelsea and Matt to think quickly. There are strange attacks on Chelsea's life, and she is faced with dealing with secrets, kidnapping, and eventually forgiveness. It's a tough change of events, and Chelsea doesn't feel she can pray.

The descriptions of the Rogue River and the surrounding area brought the story to life. The river scenes were quite intense.

The main characters had numerous layers and a multitude of changes to work through. I found them to be inspiring and, at times, courageous. The second-chance romance was sweet, and the ending wrapped things up nicely. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

The Underdog (A Veterinarian's Fight Against Racism & Injustice) by Dr. Hakam Bhullar

The Underdog is about Dr. Hakam Bhullar, who opened the Atlas Animal Hospital in Canada and lowered the cost of animal care to be more affordable for his clients. He also helped fellow veterinarians open their clinics. His battle against systemic racism in Canada was long and expensive.

I was moved by his endurance and his tough conviction of his practice and what it would mean for his animals and clients. He did no wrong, yet his license to practice was revoked. The governmental agency pressured him to take the easy way out, but he held to his principles.

Even though it cost him time away from his family and a lot of money in attorney's fees, he wasn't only fighting for himself, but for everyone who would face injustice after him. Dr. Hakam Bhullar was courageous and determined to not give up.  Institutional bias persists today, and through Dr. Bhullar's heroic actions, he has helped change part of an unjust system.

The Underdog is a very inspirational and inspiring story that should inspire us to be the best we can be by sharing our voice against all forms of injustice.

I recommend reading this book.  You may walk away with a new understanding or perspective. I know it will touch your heart profoundly, as it did mine.

Unending Hope Blog Tour by Cindy Kay Stewart

About the Book

Book: Unending Hope

Author: Cindy Kay Stewart

Genre: Historical Christian Romance

Release Date: July 29, 2025

As WWII expands across Europe, members of the Circle of Hope are drawn deeper into the struggle to survive in the face of overwhelming adversity.

April 1940. Nazi Germany carries out a devastating invasion, trapping Americans David Jensen and Natalie Thompson in Norway. Determined to use their medical skills to aid the Norwegians, David and Natalie embark on a harrowing journey to treat the injured and evade the Nazis.

Natalie, a dedicated Red Cross worker, values deep relationships. Fearful of settling for a shallow marriage, she broke off her engagement to David several years before. But she never stopped loving him and spending time working together in Norway plays havoc with her heart.

David, a charismatic and confidant doctor with the Red Cross, desires to advance his career and rekindle his relationship with Natalie. Even though she once rejected him, he believes she is the only woman for him. But years of keeping others at arms’ length guarantees that winning Natalie back will be the biggest challenge he’s ever faced.

The saga introduced in Abounding Hope continues in this inspiring second installment of courage and devotion.

Readers of Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale and Lee Jackson’s After Dunkirk series will love this book.

About the Author

Cindy Kay Stewart, a retired high school social studies and special education teacher, writes stories of hope, steeped in love, and anchored in faith. Passionate about revealing God’s handiwork in history, Cindy loves to research until she uncovers hidden gems to share with her readers. She resides in North Georgia with her college sweetheart. Her daughter, son-in-law, and four adorable grandchildren live nearby.

More from Cindy

Those who love learning about bygone eras through fiction, will enjoy escaping to WWII Norway and France in Unending Hope, Book 2 in the Circle of Hope series. This novel follows the adventures of former boarding school classmates who vowed to come to each other’s aid in times of crisis, and WWII provides plenty of trouble for these diehard twenty-somethings to work through. Abounding Hope, Book 1 in the series, is a friends-to-lovers romance, and Unending Hope is a second-chance romance. The novels are sequential to the timeline of WWII.

As well as struggling to safely navigate their responsibilities, the major characters in both novels seek answers to their needs and problems, which can only be found by embarking on a spiritual journey that’s just as climactic as their physical adventures.

I love to research and dig up true stories I’ve never heard about or seen before and then share the most interesting ones through the lives of my characters. Bringing history to life is an adventure for me, and keeping my stories historically accurate is a goal I always strive to meet.

My Thoughts on the Book

Unending Hope is a blend of historical details and Christian fiction that is seamlessly intertwined, flowing beautifully. The sweet love story that continued despite the ongoing war with Germany kept me turning the pages. I couldn't put it down. I had to find out what would happen next. Things were constantly evolving—a well-thought-out story with interesting characters.

David and Natalie attend a wedding in Norway, only to find themselves in the midst of a war that seems to follow them as they attempt to leave the country. When it seems impossible, they volunteer at the hospital to take care of the wounded soldiers. Even put themselves in danger as they take on more duties.

The story is about faith, love, courage, obedience, trust, and hope. I enjoyed following David's awakening to obedience to God's calling and following his true path. Natalie had a strong faith, but worried about David's. I admired them both. There were other couples in the story that contributed to the fellowship and the danger they endured. The ending wrapped up everything nicely. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

The Hidden Legacy (A Ford Family Ranch: Book Two) Blog Tour by June Foster

About the Book

Book: The Hidden Legacy (A Ford Family Ranch: Book Two)

Author: June Foster

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Release Date: October 7, 2025

Austin Ford has inherited the weight of his family’s legacy, overseeing the sprawling Ford Ranch as his father steps back and his siblings forge their own paths. But when his beloved horse, Jack, falls gravely ill, Austin calls upon the new veterinarian in town, igniting a chain of events that will change everything.

Dr. Willow Lawson, a skilled veterinarian, is stunned when she first lays eyes on Austin Ford. The young, handsome rancher is the spitting image of her deceased husband, a shock that causes her to faint right in the horse barn. Determined to overcome the haunting memories, Willow throws herself into her work, even as her heart begins to stir for the charismatic rancher.

As Austin grapples with the strange, unexplained holes appearing on the North Pasture, he is drawn into a deeper mystery. Night flights over the ranch reveal flashing lights in the darkness, suggesting the holes are no mere animal burrows.

Amidst this growing unease, Austin and Willow’s budding relationship is tested when her clinic is vandalized, leaving her devastated and out of work. The attacks seem to be more than random acts of violence, especially when Austin’s father recounts tales of buried gold hidden on the ranch by their ancestor, Great Grandfather Jeremiah, during the Great Depression.

With prowlers encroaching on his land and his desire to protect Willow intensifying, Austin must navigate the treacherous waters of old family secrets and new-found love. Together, can Austin and Willow unravel the mystery threatening their lives and find solace in each other’s arms? Or will the shadows of the past and present prove too formidable to overcome?

More from June

If you love fields of Texas bluebonnets, rolling hills dotted with woolly sheep, and good-looking cowboys, you won’t want to miss The Hidden Heritage.

Veterinarian Willow Lawson never expected to faint the first time she laid eyes on Austin Ford—the ruggedly handsome owner of the Ford Ranch. But their unexpected meeting is only the beginning.

When strange holes appear in the Back Pasture, Willow and Austin join forces to uncover who—or what—is behind the digging. As danger closes in and their lives are threatened, a bond forms between them, stronger than either expected.

But just as love begins to bloom, a shocking revelation from the past threatens to tear them apart. What secret lies buried at the Ford Ranch—and can love survive its unearthing?

MY REVIEW

The Hidden Legacy had me hooked from the beginning. Their first meeting of Austin and Willow was disturbing and piqued my interest. I couldn't wait to find out the reason behind it. The ranch setting where Austin lived was interesting, and Willow's choice of vocation added a lot of interest to the story. They both had issues with vandalism of their property.

It was evident that God orchestrated their meeting. I loved the faith element of both main characters in the story. Their relationship brought hardship to both, and many secrets were uncovered. I enjoyed the story and highly recommend it.

The Ghost You Can't See (Newest Book in The Issachar Gatekeeper Series) by L. G. Nixon

My Thoughts on the Book

Book 3 of The Issachar Gatekeeper is a page-turner of hauntings, deception, and treachery. The Defenders take on another partner in the group, and they find themselves closer to Darnathian. But, not without extreme danger to all of them. I am reprimanding them.

The new characters added to this book are relevant and add another intriguing aspect to the story. Especially, Mathias. The Defenders must fight with their full armor and harder than they ever have. They also make a new friend. There are some surprises within the story that had me wondering what would happen next. A big surprise at the end, which you won't see coming. So exciting. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Although this is a YA story, as an adult, I must say that I enjoyed it too. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

MY REVIEW
Clara and the Cowboy is filled with hardship, danger, and anger. Clara's stage on the way back to Money Creek is robbed. Clara's father, a local ranch owner, is worried about her. It's been a year since he has seen her. The man on the stage with her protects her from the outlaws, but he has a secret past.

The story has a wonderful ranch setting, and the characters are interesting with many layers. The Stovepipe Hills that run between Clara's home and another ranch have secrets of their own. There are lots of surprising twists. Along with kidnapping, cattle rustling, and danger, there is also forgiveness and redemption.

A sweet love story flows through the pages, but not without its many problems. Both people deal with stubborn pride and forgiveness. The ending wrapped up everything nicely. The story had something happening continuously, and I finished it in one sitting. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author via Netgalley; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

About the Author

Best-selling, award-winning author of The Debutante’s Code, first in the Thorndike & Swann Regency Mystery Series, Erica Vetsch loves Jesus, history, romance, and sports. When she’s not writing fiction, she’s planning her next trip to a history museum.

More from Erica

Did you, like me, grow up watching westerns on tv? I watched often in reruns as the heyday of the TV Western was waning about the time I was born. But I watched Gunsmoke, The Big Valley, Bonanza, Have Gun, Will Travel, The Rifleman, Wagon Train, The Virginian, and more.

And so grew my love of the old west, of cowboys, cattle drives, frontier justices, and rolling tumbleweeds.

I also read westerns. Zane Grey, Louis L’Amour, Abel Shott (Yes, that was the pen name of the man who wrote the series called Solo Strand: The Silver Kid.) I was a firm believer in The Code of the West.

So, when it came time to write my own ‘cowboy book’ I took much inspiration from the screen and the page.

Clara and the Cowboy is the story of Alec and Clara, a cowboy and the ranch owner’s daughter. There’s cattle rustling, gunplay, good vs. evil, a damsel in distress…all the best parts of western classic lore. I had such fun writing it, influenced by those who had written the genre before me.

The setting was chosen (Southwest Idaho) because of a series of books I had read as a teen, written by Glenn Balch, about a ranching family near Nampa, ID. I’ve never been to that part of the US, but I felt as if I had because I read those books (many times!)

As I look back on the hours I spent watching classic westerns on tv and reading western fiction, I’m reminded of the impact they had on my life. How they taught that good and evil exist in the world, and that it takes bravery to stand up and do the right thing. I learned that honor and integrity do not come without cost, and that actions have consequences.

Who would have thought that watching a rerun of The Big Valley would instill a desire to embrace the cowboy culture through my own fiction?

I hope you enjoy reading Clara and the Cowboy, and that perhaps it takes you back to your own childhood of rooting for the man in the white hat to get the girl he loves before the credits roll.
