Clara and the Cowboy Blog Tour by Erica Vetsch

About the Book

Book: Clara and the Cowboy

Author: Erica Vetsch

Genre: Christian Historical Fiction

Release Date: October 13, 2025

She’s the rancher’s daughter. He’s the reformed outlaw who became her father’s foreman. Love was never part of the plan.

Clara Bainbridge has loved Alec for years, long before she left for finishing school in Boston. And though she is convinced he loves her too, he seems determined to push her away now that she’s back. So when the handsome stranger who protects her during a stagecoach robbery reveals that he is her new neighbor, Clara begins to wonder if accepting his suit might be wiser than waiting for Alec.

Ranch foreman Alec McConnell has worked hard to overcome his criminal past and prove himself worthy of Colonel Bainbridge’s trust. When cattle start disappearing from the Cross B Ranch, Alec’s checkered past makes him the prime suspect. He must catch the real rustlers to clear his name, but his growing feelings for the Colonel’s daughter, Clara, threaten to undo everything he’s built. How can he protect her when his very presence in her life could destroy her reputation?

MY REVIEW
Clara and the Cowboy is filled with hardship, danger, and anger. Clara's stage on the way back to Money Creek is robbed. Clara's father, a local ranch owner, is worried about her. It's been a year since he has seen her. The man on the stage with her protects her from the outlaws, but he has a secret past.

The story has a wonderful ranch setting, and the characters are interesting with many layers. The Stovepipe Hills that run between Clara's home and another ranch have secrets of their own. There are lots of surprising twists. Along with kidnapping, cattle rustling, and danger, there is also forgiveness and redemption.

A sweet love story flows through the pages, but not without its many problems. Both people deal with stubborn pride and forgiveness. The ending wrapped up everything nicely. The story had something happening continuously, and I finished it in one sitting. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author via Netgalley; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

About the Author

More from Erica

Did you, like me, grow up watching westerns on tv? I watched often in reruns as the heyday of the TV Western was waning about the time I was born. But I watched Gunsmoke, The Big Valley, Bonanza, Have Gun, Will Travel, The Rifleman, Wagon Train, The Virginian, and more.

And so grew my love of the old west, of cowboys, cattle drives, frontier justices, and rolling tumbleweeds.

I also read westerns. Zane Grey, Louis L’Amour, Abel Shott (Yes, that was the pen name of the man who wrote the series called Solo Strand: The Silver Kid.) I was a firm believer in The Code of the West.

So, when it came time to write my own ‘cowboy book’ I took much inspiration from the screen and the page.

Clara and the Cowboy is the story of Alec and Clara, a cowboy and the ranch owner’s daughter. There’s cattle rustling, gunplay, good vs. evil, a damsel in distress…all the best parts of western classic lore. I had such fun writing it, influenced by those who had written the genre before me.

The setting was chosen (Southwest Idaho) because of a series of books I had read as a teen, written by Glenn Balch, about a ranching family near Nampa, ID. I’ve never been to that part of the US, but I felt as if I had because I read those books (many times!)

As I look back on the hours I spent watching classic westerns on tv and reading western fiction, I’m reminded of the impact they had on my life. How they taught that good and evil exist in the world, and that it takes bravery to stand up and do the right thing. I learned that honor and integrity do not come without cost, and that actions have consequences.

Who would have thought that watching a rerun of The Big Valley would instill a desire to embrace the cowboy culture through my own fiction?

I hope you enjoy reading Clara and the Cowboy, and that perhaps it takes you back to your own childhood of rooting for the man in the white hat to get the girl he loves before the credits roll.

What's It Like to Be Me by Elizabeth Ann O'Handley

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Elizabeth Ann O'Handley will be awarding a $10 Amazon/BN gift card to a randomly drawn winner. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Well, one thing is for certain: everyone will feel something different after reading What It's Like to Be Me!

Why you ask? It is simply because every single one of us is completely unique; that is what makes us who we are.

The young girl in this book helps us understand that the journey of self-identification is not always easy. In some cases, maybe we just have not given it much thought. I mean, how often do we check in with ourselves? At times we are more focused on what others may think about us, while we are truly unaware of what we even think about ourselves.

With reflection, it is sometimes necessary, and useful, to see ourselves objectively.

The young girl in What It's Like to Be Me has to look within to find herself. Personal growth will usually assist us in accepting the reality of who we really are. As life changes and we grow through experience, it is up to us to be the best versions of ourselves.

Living your truth is a personal suggestion for making things a little easier when embarking on the journey of knowing exactly who you are. Every experience will change us, maybe a little, or maybe a lot. Who you are going to be in this world starts with you!

I wish you all a wonderful journey!
Truth, love, and respect always,
Elizabeth Ann O'Handley

Read an Excerpt

This is my journey about being me.

I often wonder what others see.

Do they see me as kind,

 or maybe carefree?

Or fearlessly brave? Hmmm, is that what they see?

I was not quite sure,

so, I wanted to see,

what is it that others think about me.

I hope they see truth to the fullest

degree, and a heart filled with love,

for all those to see.

MY REVIEW

What It's Like to Be Me is a wonderful story about discovering who you are by looking inside yourself. Being happy about who you are and your journey. Let your heart be your guide, and believe you are perfect just the way you are.

A well-written and illustrated book that will have your child learning a special lesson about who they are. The book features lovely illustrations that are colorful and vibrant, corresponding well with the rhyming text. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

Preface

The world we live in can be unpredictable. Life will challenge us and give us reasons to question many things. Life may make us feel uncertain of a decision … make us feel uncertain of ourselves.

Let us help one another affirm our purpose so we can live in a world where we feel more in tune with ourselves.

Life is so beautiful, precious, and filled with meaning. Let us start by finding ourselves and then watch that beauty grow.

May we all find what we are looking for.

About the Author: What It's Like to Be Me is Elizabeth Ann O'Handley's second book. It was inspired by a visit to her hometown of Glace Bay, in the province of Nova Scotia.

Elizabeth graduated from Cape Breton University with a B.A. in 2005, and received a diploma in Acupuncture from the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners & Acupuncturists of British Columbia in 2011.

In realization of many things, Elizabeth is forever grateful for the love she continues to receive from her family and friends. She reflects on her experiences with a humble heart, and is very emotional about being true to oneself.

Elizabeth is convinced that storytelling can be an effective tool in helping anyone find their path.

Elizabeth is committed to creating positive content, in hopes that it will have an impact on all readers of her work.

New Release on October 23rd - Wasted (Windy City Westons Book 2) by Jerusha Agen

She always follows the rules. But what are the rules for murder?

Victoria Weston encounters tough things as a home health physical therapist, but this is a first—a dead body. The police call the patient’s death accidental. Victoria knows that can’t be true. Her efforts to convince the police they’re dealing with a murder get her labeled a troublemaker by all but one man—the troubler of her youth.

When Cillian Doherty returns to right the wrongs of the past, he finds his high school flame in a different kind of danger than he expected. As a social worker, he’s in the perfect position to corroborate her cry of murder or give her what she wanted—to handle her problems without his help.

But someone wants to silence Victoria. When lies escalate to violence and threaten more lives, the Weston siblings join the battle to save their sister. But it will take a God more powerful than all of them for Cillian and Victoria to make peace with their past and catch the killer. Before the killer catches them.

Wasted continues the thrilling Windy City Westons series that features five siblings who encounter danger, love, and God in the city of Chicago.

(Each book can stand alone or be read as a series installment.)

MY REVIEW

Wasted is a chilling tale with many twists and turns. Victoria battles with her emotions in seeing her childhood boyfriend, Cillian, after many years. Victoria Weston, a home health physical therapist, and Cillian Doherty, a social worker for the same company, find themselves in the middle of a murder investigation.

The story is original, with lots of family tension, and spiritual content that made me smile to know that God was involved. I loved the characters with their many layers. Victoria made a concerted effort to maintain peace with her family while still upholding her own beliefs.

The story is a page-turner that kept me guessing who the murderer was, while taking me down a few rabbit holes along the way. It was an exhilarating edge-of-my-seat ride until the end, which wrapped everything up nicely. Highly recommended.

My Thoughts on the Book

Still Holding Out for You is one of the best sweet romance books I've read this year. Austin & Willow have a magical connection that helps them when they sing and play guitar as a duo on stage. Both collaborate on lyrics and harmonize beautifully together. After marrying, Willow discovers that she is pregnant, but then the other shoe drops. She has a hard decision to make that will affect both their lives.

The story is a wonderful one, beginning like some relationships when the other person is also a work partner. But this one has some twists. The main characters had me mesmerized from the beginning. They had many layers and were courageous, strong, and determined. Once, they were extremely happy. This book evokes a wide range of emotions. I felt myself reaching for the tissues more than once, but I couldn't stop reading. I had to find out how it ended. There was a surprising ending that was inspiring.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

Rosie the Clydesdale horse and her cowgirl friend Oakley love living on the ranch—but that doesn’t mean it isn’t dangerous! This exciting picture book celebrates teamwork, friendship, and the courage of selfless love.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Southern belle, Paige Murray, lives on a working cattle ranch in Texas with her daughter Oakley and husband Ty Murray, 9X World Champion Cowboy and co-founder of the Professional Bull Riders. In addition to 500 mama cows, 10 bulls and 8 horses, Paige added 5 cats, 3 dogs, 3 donkey's, a mini horse, a peacock, 2 turkeys, 2 guinea birds, a hamster, a rabbit, 2 rats, a bunch of chickens, a pig and a sheep to the TY Ranch.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE BOOK

Rosie's Ranch Rescue is another wonderfully written book about being brave, even when you don't feel like it. Oakley and her horse, Rosie, help fight off coyotes that are threatening the ranch animals. Even Thumbs, the cat, gets in on the action.

It's a story of adventure, family, courage, and empathy. Oakley shows how family works together. The illustrations are well-drawn, and the color is bright, conveying a lot of emotion. The illustrations complement the easy-to-read storyline well.

MY REVIEW
I haven't read the first two books in the series, but I didn't have any trouble following book 3. I was mesmerized by the Hadley family. Their close ties to each other, their family traditions, and most of all, the love and playful banter between them.

There was a lot more going on than RaeLyn's wedding. There are a lot of mysterious happenings, family surprises, and danger. I loved how the family came together in times of personal upsets. Towards the end, the family became like real friends. I was engaged in the story.

There were times when the storyline made me laugh, other times when I was almost in tears, and then times that I was filled with joy in the knowledge of how God works—an excellent read, highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

About the Author

More from Janice

In the mid-90s, as my children and I drove up to the Mabank area from our home in Houston, we saw smoke off in the distance. The closer we got to my mother and stepfather’s acreage—sixty-three gorgeous acres of cattle land—the thicker the smoke got.

When we arrived on Mom’s street the reality of what faced us was unavoidable. The property across the road, to our left, was in a roaring blaze, flames moving so fast my car could barely get past them on the narrow country road.

We miraculously made it to Mom’s driveway and went inside her home, hearts racing. In that moment, a decision was made to gather in a circle and pray. We offered up a passionate plea for the Lord’s protection then rushed outside to grab hoses to help water everything down.

As I sat to write Mistletoe and Mayhem, my latest cozy mystery from Barbour Publishing, I was faced with the memories of this terrifying trip. Just as you read in this story, firefighters got that massive blazed stopped, right at the edge of her property. And I can tell you as a first-hand witness that not a spark landed on any of us. Whenever I reflect on this event I’m reminded of God’s ultimate faithfulness. He spared us from certain catastrophe.

I can assure you, we as a family never forgot the mercy and grace of God as we faced our Isaiah 43 moment. No doubt you’ve been through a few fires, too. Fear not. The Lord is right there, ready to carry you through. You can trust Him, even in the fiery trials of life.

Blessings on you all,

Janice Thompson

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Isaiah 43:1b-3
