Betrayal and trust go hand in hand in the first book of Heidi Eljarbo’s new turn-of-the-century series.

It’s 1898, and Lilly has spent most of her life motherless and living with a father who never looks for a silver lining. When her great-aunt Agatha passes, Lilly’s existence takes a drastic turn. She packs her few belongings and moves into the old lady’s magnificent estate, Rosenli Manor.

In the days that follow, Lilly tries to understand who Agatha really was, and hidden secrets slowly rise to the surface. Her great-aunt’s glamorous legacy is not quite what Lilly had imagined. She must trust in newly forged friendships, and to her surprise, she discovers what it means to truly fall in love. But not everyone is happy about the new mistress of Rosenli.

Intrigue, mystery, and a touch of romance in the Norwegian countryside fill the pages of Secrets of Rosenli Manor. Fans of Rhys Bowen, Julie Klassen, Kathleen McGurl, Kate Morton, and Lucinda Riley will be delighted with this new novel.

My Review

Lilly inherits her aunt Agatha's estate, Rosenli Manor in 1898. Lilly is quite accomplished as a bookkeeper in spite of working in a predominately man's profession. Lilly barely remembers her aunt and through a series of letters and townspeople, she tries to learn about her life.

The storyline is filled with many secrets. There were dark periods of suspense where Lilly was confused and afraid. Her staff at the manor were her refuge. I enjoyed the descriptions of the town in and the grounds of the manor. It made me feel as though I was there with her.

The ending was surprising and unlocked the many secrets, all but one. Can't wait to find that out as the series continues. If you love mysteries, this one is for you. The characters will have you mesmerized from the beginning. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy of the book and a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

About the Author

Angela Ruth Strong sold her first Christian romance novel in 2009 then quit writing romance when her husband left her. Twelve years later, God has shown her the true meaning of love, and there’s nothing else she’d rather write about. Her books have since earned TOP PICK in Romantic Times, won the Cascade Award, and been Amazon best-sellers. Her book Finding Love in Big Sky filmed on location in Montana and will air in spring of 2022. She also writes non-fiction for SpiritLed Woman. To help aspiring authors, she started IDAhope Writers where she lives in Idaho, and she teaches as an expert online at WRITE THAT BOOK.

More from Angela Ruth

Having my book made into a movie is a dream come true, and getting to be an extra on the set in Montana blew away all my expectations. There’s nothing like walking into a world you created and seeing your imaginary friends come to life.

I knew what was going on before anyone told me. I pointed around the set as I narrated: “They are going to hang that star on the barn. The horses are named Butch and Sundance. And that big red truck is going to break down because I WANT it to break down.”

I got it all right except for one thing. “Actually, Angela, the truck really did break down.” Oops.

Not only was I in on the inside jokes, but I kind of made them up. For example, during the “almost kissing” scene, Josh’s brother walks into the kitchen to look for ice cream. The actors got a good laugh afterwards whenever they were practicing the kissing scene because the actress would turn away with an “I’m going out for ice cream.”

I was only on location for one day, but it was the best day. I saw them film both kisses, the mentor scene, and we were extras in the cowboy ball. (I’m the one in the blue dress who signs up for the silent auction.)

However, my husband Jim was really bummed we couldn’t be there for the scene in the auto repair shop. He took his own coveralls just in case he could be an extra mechanic. We joked with the actress about it, and when we watched the final cut, we were surprised to see her call back into the shop to a “Jim.” I messaged her to ask if she did that on purpose, and she said she did. Such a sweet tribute.

On our last day, we ate breakfast at the Western Café (another film location) with the director, and we visited the jewelry shop where my hero had a necklace made for the heroine with the logo of her ranch on it. Jim gave me the exact same necklace for Christmas.

Everyone was so fun and nice, and even if I someday get to have another book made into a movie, I don’t think it could top this experience. I really hope you enjoy both the novel and the film. And may the message of how “you are a treasure” carry you forward toward your own dreams.

My Review

Paisley Sheridan inherits her grandfather's ranch and she has plans for it. The plan didn't include a man from his high school days that finds out he still has feelings for her. The romance between Paisley and Josh is sweet, and intense at times. Both characters feel the need to pray about it.

The storyline is about two people who live different lives and can't seem to come together. The ending wrapped everything up nicely and it was a sweet romantic story which held my attention from the beginning. The Christian aspect came through perfectly.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and willingly choose to review it. All opinions are my own.

The Ranchers Want Ad Mix-Up Blog Review Tour & Giveaway by Megan Besing

The Rancher's Want Ad Mix-Up JustRead Blog + Review Tour

Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour for The Rancher's Want Ad Mix-Up by Megan Besing, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

The Rancher's Want Ad Mix-Up
Title: The Rancher's Want Ad Mix-Up
Author: Megan Besing
Publisher: Love Inspired Historical
Release Date: April 26, 2022
Genre: Inspirational Historical Romance

A mail-order mistake…

Or a made-to-be match?

When Della Mae Wagner’s train arrives in Missouri, she’s shocked to find that the couple who hired her don’t just want a teacher for their grandsons but a wife for their son! After a broken engagement, marriage is not in Della’s plans. And Hank Lamson isn’t pleased—with his parents, with his unexpected guest or with Della’s unfairly appealing smile. But his plans to send her packing are foiled as his family comes to love her…and he feels the walls around his wounded heart start to fall.

EXCERPT

Della straightened her back at Mr. Lamson’s tone. So much for an ally amongst the confusion. Of course, she wasn’t looking for a husband any more than this man sought a wife, yet she couldn’t help but relive the sting of Tom’s rejection all over again. “I’m not here to apply to be your wife. Nor to be someone you court.”

Alice released a small gasp and Mr. Lamson crossed his arms as if he didn’t believe her, either. “You’re not?”

Mercy sakes. Did women fall at his feet so often he was surprised that anyone didn’t wish to be his wife? What kind of women lived in Missouri?

MY REVIEW

The story is set in Missouri in 1889. Della answers an ad for what she thought was a teaching position. Instead, Hank's parents had hoped she would be his mail-order bride. Hank wasn't ready to marry. His wife died, leaving him with three young sons and no desire to wed again. On a trial basis as a teacher, they both agreed she would stay.

The story is inspirational and has a lot of hardships, learning to have a new relationship and lots of forgiveness. What starts as a teaching position turns out to be much more but it doesn't come easy. Fear and a hardened heart toward the Lord make things more difficult.

Even though the story has some sad circumstances, it also has some humorous and loving instances. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of the book and a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

More from Dana

Wooty woo! We’re back in Death Valley again! So excited about this fourth book in the series because Papa Bear and I have actually returned to this amazing place. (Our previous return trip was stalled for a while due to the virus that shall not be named!) People have asked me, “Why do you love Death Valley so much?” I can only respond that you just have to go there to understand. Is it the vastness of the place? The enormous topographical variety? Maybe it’s the profound quietness that permeates the national park and environs. Then again, it might be the panorama of nighttime stars. (Death Valley National Park is a certified International Dark Sky Park due to its limited light pollution.) Could it be the tenacity of people who live there and survive the one hundred twenty-plus degree temperatures in the summer? And how about those animals? The Death Valley pupfish is a teeny little endangered fish that lives in precisely one spot on the globe (Death Valley) and only two places within that range, Salt Creek and Cottonball Marsh. Imagine that! So why set a six-book series in Death Valley? Because there’s no more hostile and incredible place I can think of. I hope you will enjoy taking a fictional trip with me there too. Enjoy the adventure, reader friends!

My Review

Another great read set in Death Valley. Willow Duke a member of the well-known Duke family, finds herself in the middle of a race for her life. Tony, whose brother is a witness in an important high case trial to bring down a crime boss takes care of his brother's two children.

Lots of intrigue, suspense, family relationship issues, and mystery. At times it was hard to know whose side all the characters were on. It kept me on the edge of my seat even to the end. In the middle of the chaos, grows a high-tension romance that keeps those involved guessing. A sweet romance, inspirational and uplifting main characters, and a wonderful setting brings the best storyline. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy and voluntarily choose to review it. All opinions are my own.

Ella Blog Tour & Giveaway by Nancy Fraser

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Nancy Fraser will be awarding a $20 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.   You can follow the tour and comment by clicking HERE .

To get away from her late husband’s questionable deeds, Ella Winslow takes her three children and heads west to the unsettled Washington Territory to claim land she believes she’s inherited from her father.

Tucker McAlister was fired from his position as deputy marshal for arresting the mayor’s brother-in-law for spousal abuse. His mentor has found him another job, first escorting the wagon train going west, and then as the new marshal in the growing town of Tacoma, Washington Territory.

The trail is long and hard, yet Ella is more than up to the task. Still, Tuck feels the need to watch over her and her children, whether she wants him to or not. It isn’t until they arrive in Washington that he realizes his protection will now need to extend even further than the wagon train itself.

Will Ella’s faith allow her to trust again and make a safe home for her family, while welcoming Tuck into her heart?

Read an Excerpt

U.S. Marshal’s Office
St. Joseph, Missouri
April 20, 1870

Tucker McAlister settled against the wooden railing opposite Willard Davis’ desk. The older man leaned back in his chair and raised his head. His faded brown gaze, gray hair shot through with strands of white, and grizzled beard easily gave away his age. Not to mention the wear and tear thirty-odd years of being a lawman had put on his body.

Tuck held his breath. This was it. Davis was about to announce his retirement, leaving the job of marshal open for the taking. Given Tuck was the deputy with the most experience, he figured he was a shoe-in for the job.

Unfortunately, he’d figured wrong.

“The mayor wasn’t pleased with you arresting his brother-in-law,” Davis said, his narrowed stare aimed in Tuck’s direction. “No doubt with all the high-priced solicitors making their way into town, the whole fiasco is going to be thrown out of court like so much dirty bathwater.”

“He’s guilty as sin, and you know it.”

“I know it, you know it, and—no doubt—the mayor knows it. This isn’t the brother-in-law’s first brush with the law. However, the reprobate claims his wife provoked him.”

“There’s no cause for a man to strike a woman, especially one with child. It’s assault.”

“She’s his wife,” Davis pointed out.

Tuck could feel the flush of anger staining his throat, his face. “That still doesn't give him the right.”

“And the man’s lawyers are claiming you didn’t have the right to give him a black eye and broken wrist.”

“He charged at me when I put myself between him and his missus. I was defending myself when I punched him in the eye. As for his wrist, he did that himself when he swung and missed. I can’t help it if I was standing in front of a brick wall when I ducked.”

Davis snorted a laugh before continuing. “I agree with everything you’ve said, Tuck. You’re my best deputy—the one man I’d trust to take over for me when I retire—and I know you were only protecting the woman.” Heaving a sigh, he added, “However, the mayor’s demanding I fire you. Right here. Right now.”

“No, you can’t do that,” Tuck argued. “I’ll appeal to the state marshal’s office. Surely, they’ll have my back.”

“Their hands are tied. The governor supports the mayor’s request.”

“I was only doing my job, boss.”

“I know, and it’s not fair. I told ‘em so, too.”

“What am I supposed to do? Keeping the law is all I’ve known since I came here eight years ago.”

“You should’ve already been promoted and posted somewhere within the state, Tuck. Hanging around here out of loyalty to an old coot like me hasn’t done you any good.”

“It wasn’t as much loyalty as it was gratitude. You gave an inexperienced, bitter young man a job, a purpose. I owe you everything.”

“What you owe me is to accept the favor I’ve called in from an old friend.”

“A favor? What kind of favor?”

“I got you a job escorting a wagon train headed to Oregon and then on to the Washington Territory. You leave in two-days time. Once you get to Yakima, you’ll need to send a telegram to Marshal Burt Macklin in Olympia.”

“They’ve got a job for me in Olympia?”

“Not there, but the territory’s expanding rapidly. They need a marshal in Tacoma who can cover the town, and the surrounding county. Macklin will meet you in Tacoma to swear you in. Then, as soon as you’re settled, you’ll be able to hire yourself a deputy or two.”

“You told them about me?” Tuck asked.

“I told Burt you were the best deputy I’ve ever trained and darned near the best shot I ever saw. That was all he needed to hear.”

“Does he know I’ve been fired?”

Willard Davis shrugged. “Probably not. I didn’t see any reason to bring it up.”

My Review

Ella Winslow, a widow with three young children decides to make a fresh start and travel from Missouri to Boney Lake, Oregon hoping to live on her deceased father's claim. Things didn't turn out as she planned. God had another direction for her future.

In Oregon, with no home, she follows Tuck to Pendelton, Oregon where his U.S. Marshall position awaits. Their lives are intertwined in a positive way and God provides for all of them-just not what was expected. Ella is a strong woman with an unfortunate past. Tuck, a courageous Godly man is on his way to starting over also.

I loved the faith aspect of the story and the sweet blossoming love story. There were some humorous moments but also some intense ones leading to an unknown future. A short story but full of lots of adventure with an ending that wrapped everything up nicely.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily choose to review it. All opinions are my own.

Review of Second Chance at Happiness by Greta Picklesimer

Historical Christian Romance

Description:
After Catherine Reed’s husband dies in a tragic logging accident, Catherine and her four-year-old daughter, Clair, move home with Catherine’s mother and brother in order to accept a new position as the teacher for the town’s one-room schoolhouse. But Catherine carries a dark secret that she hasn’t even shared with her mother. Will she ever find forgiveness?

Samuel Harris has suffered his own loss, losing his wife and unborn child over a year prior. Although he is the town’s preacher, he struggles to trust God, blaming God for allowing him to be absent when his wife died. The guilt has burdened him ever since. But when his old flame Catherine Reed comes back to town, he wonders if they can find healing together.

Catherine believes that anyone who wants to learn should be allowed to learn, but she is quick to find a town divided on that issue. As she and Samuel set out to change people’s minds in a post-Civil War era, they find themselves drawn to each other over and over again. As they join together for the same cause, could they also find a second chance at happiness?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Greta Picklesimer is Michigan-born and raised by Kentucky-transplanted parents. She accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of five—a happy day in her memory. Besides writing, Greta spends time working on her art journal, painting with watercolors and oil pastels. She is owned by one rescue cat by the name of Pearlie Blue who was named after her father's favorite Bluegrass song. By day Greta works as an office assistant. By night, she writes.

MY REVIEW

Catherine Reed and her daughter return home after her husband is killed in an accident. Catherine applies for a teaching job and finds out that a childhood friend is head of the school board and also a minister.

Second Chance at Happiness has a lot of circumstances that both Catherine and Samuel have to work through. Their past keeps them from moving forward. The story is filled with faith, learning to trust again, second chances, and forgiveness.

The characters are well-developed and I admired Catherine's resolve to go on even when things seemed dismal. She fought for what she believed in. Samuel is a strong character but has flaws.

The setting for the story with an apple orchard made it come to life and the vivid descriptions made me feel as though I was there with them. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy of the book and a positive
review is not required. All opinions are my own.
