MY REVIEW
I haven't read the first two books in the series, but I didn't have any trouble following book 3. I was mesmerized by the Hadley family. Their close ties to each other, their family traditions, and most of all, the love and playful banter between them.

There was a lot more going on than RaeLyn's wedding. There are a lot of mysterious happenings, family surprises, and danger. I loved how the family came together in times of personal upsets. Towards the end, the family became like real friends. I was engaged in the story.

There were times when the storyline made me laugh, other times when I was almost in tears, and then times that I was filled with joy in the knowledge of how God works—an excellent read, highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

About the Author

More from Janice

In the mid-90s, as my children and I drove up to the Mabank area from our home in Houston, we saw smoke off in the distance. The closer we got to my mother and stepfather’s acreage—sixty-three gorgeous acres of cattle land—the thicker the smoke got.

When we arrived on Mom’s street the reality of what faced us was unavoidable. The property across the road, to our left, was in a roaring blaze, flames moving so fast my car could barely get past them on the narrow country road.

We miraculously made it to Mom’s driveway and went inside her home, hearts racing. In that moment, a decision was made to gather in a circle and pray. We offered up a passionate plea for the Lord’s protection then rushed outside to grab hoses to help water everything down.

As I sat to write Mistletoe and Mayhem, my latest cozy mystery from Barbour Publishing, I was faced with the memories of this terrifying trip. Just as you read in this story, firefighters got that massive blazed stopped, right at the edge of her property. And I can tell you as a first-hand witness that not a spark landed on any of us. Whenever I reflect on this event I’m reminded of God’s ultimate faithfulness. He spared us from certain catastrophe.

I can assure you, we as a family never forgot the mercy and grace of God as we faced our Isaiah 43 moment. No doubt you’ve been through a few fires, too. Fear not. The Lord is right there, ready to carry you through. You can trust Him, even in the fiery trials of life.

Blessings on you all,

Janice Thompson

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Isaiah 43:1b-3

MY REVIEW

Three stories of Christmas on the western frontier in the 1800s.
1. The Shepherd's Heart- Tracie Peterson
Nebraska 1875
Angel's future is unknown after her fiancé leaves her at the altar. Vincient, a widower with two small children, is floundering in his grief and can't seem to take care of his children the way he would like. The story touched my heart. It was heartbreaking, but redemption and God's love had an answer. The characters were great, and I was captivated by them from the beginning, especially the children. I loved the ending and the Christian theme.

2. No Room at the Inn- Misty Beller
Nebraska Territory (future Wyoming) 1861
Hope and her brother, Martin, run a stage stop and inn. A storm brings strangers stranded along with the stagecoach driver, who is injured. Hope is very caring as she tries her best to guard her heart. But God has something planned for her. Great ending.

3. A Star in the West-Karen Witemeyer
Waco, Texas 1890
Stella Barrington doesn't have a good opinion about herself, and she feels she will be a spinster for the rest of her life. She takes care of her aging father, but also, on his suggestion, writes to one of his friends, a mathematics professor, Frank Stentz. All is good until he arrives at their home. It seems God has other plans. There is also humor, which made me laugh.

The story has some twists I didn't see coming. The ending was beautiful-it made me cry.

A wonderful collection that will bring Christmas into your heart, reminding you of the most important reason to celebrate Christmas. Loved all three. Inspirational and uplifting.

Drought, Wind, and Fire is full of adventure, danger, and time travel in the Imagination Station that Whit built. The book is well-written and leads up to the adventures in an engaging way, while teaching children about characters from the Bible.

Children will love following Patrick and Beth, who are inquisitive and adventurous with some knowledge of biblical events. But they learn the true meaning of putting faith and trust in God and trusting HIM in the hard times.

The Imagination Station books would make an excellent addition to any home library. The quality is superb, and the illustrations complement the stories well. The book cover is vivid and eye-catching.

As an adult, I loved the lessons behind the stories and feel confident purchasing them for my great-grandchildren and believe they will quickly become a favorite.

MY REVIEW

Escaping the Wilderness is a page-turning, fast-paced, suspenseful story with a touch of romance. Amanda, attacked and hunted by men who want her dead, runs into Boone, who helps keep her safe.
The story had lots of twists and turns that I didn't see coming, and lots of issues of who to trust.

The characters were well-developed, with many layers and lots of secrets. The mountain wilderness is a great backdrop for the story, especially with an approaching snowstorm. I held my breath in some places, wondering what would happen next. A very exciting, action-packed story with a great ending.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.
