About the Book

Author: Barbara A. Curtis

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release Date: November 18, 2025

He survived the war, but he didn’t come home whole. Hope of a ready-made family promises healing—until he learns the truth about his love’s adopted baby.

Beth Calloway has always longed for a family, but after a childhood marked by loss, she’s learned to live quietly—typing reports at the Boise Foundling Home and keeping her heart carefully tucked away. Until one snowy night, a baby is left on her doorstep. With no room at the orphanage and no one else to help, she takes the risk…never expecting the handsome wounded soldier next door to take notice.

Recently discharged from the army, Private Timothy McPhearson is a man on a mission. Haunted by his best friend’s death during WWII, he’s determined to uncover the truth—and escape the guilt that won’t let him go. Falling for his grandmother’s quiet tenant and the baby she’s sheltering isn’t part of the plan…but Beth and little Elly Rose begin to chip away at the walls he’s built.

Just as the three begin to imagine life as a family, a shattering revelation threatens to tear them apart. When the truth about baby Elly Rose comes to light—and danger closes in—Beth must fight to protect the child she’s come to love…even if it means letting go of the man who’s claimed her heart.

My Review

This is the first book I've read by this author. I am amazed at her ability to bring 1945 to the written page in an easy-to-read style that made me feel like I was there. Her characters also had great depth, showed a lot of emotion, and worked through their struggles with faith in God.

Beth Calloway had a big heart and lots of love to give. Her faith was strong despite the hardship she endured. The danger she faced seemed real, and it kept me turning the pages, wondering how each predicament would turn out.

I enjoyed this book a lot and would highly recommend it to readers who want to be totally immersed in the story. In some places, you need to get out the tissues; in others, you will feel joy. The era's details were well represented—a very uplifting and inspirational ending.

I was given a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

More from Barbara

In Gathered from the North, Mrs. McPhearson’s first step in solving a problem is to sit down with a cup of tea. During the same year of 1945, another tea drinker in real life—Ruth Campbell Bigelow—was enjoying tea in her New York brownstone and experimenting with finding a flavorful blend using black tea, orange rind, and sweet spices. When she hit upon the final recipe, Constant Comment was born, along with the Bigelow Tea Company.

While flavored teas are easy to find in grocery stores, tea shops, and online now, we can be grateful for Ruth Campbell Bigelow’s days of experimentation in her own kitchen, as Constant Comment was the first specialty tea in the United States. And where did the name come from? When she shared her new tea with others, one reported that this tea “caused nothing but constant comments.”

I hope you enjoy Gathered from the North—perhaps over a cup of tea, specialty blend or otherwise.

Blessings!

Barbara

November 18, 2025
Genre:
Christian Inspirational Historical Fiction

Once a thief, always a thief?

Italy, 1620. Angelo is an orphan, lonely and forgotten. Having been passed on from one family to the next, he ends up as a common thief, subject to and under the thumb of a ruthless robber called Tozzo. The boy knows no other life and has lost hope that any chance of providence will ever replace his lonely, misfortunate existence.

One day, a priest invites Angelo to help with chores around the church and rectory and, in exchange, offers him room and board. Padre Benedetto’s kindness and respect are unfamiliar and confusing, but Angelo’s safety is still a grave concern. Two older robbers have heard rumors about Tozzo’s hidden treasures and will stop at nothing to attain them.

With literary depictions and imagery, Angelo’s story is a gripping and emotional journey of faint hope and truth in seventeenth-century Italy. Using invisible threads, Heidi Eljarbo weaves together her fictional stories with historical figures and real events.

My Review

I was engrossed in this story from the beginning. I loved the story of Angelo and how is forced to steal at a young age. An orphan, not knowing who his parents are or even his last name, I felt sorry for him right away. I liked the setting in an area outside Rome, Italy, and her descriptions made me feel as though I were there. The main characters had many layers that were revealed before the story ended. It is a great read, with suspense, mystery, and danger, as well as lessons learned along the way. I'm hoping another book is coming. I enjoyed the journey. I received an ARC from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

Review of Identity: Seeing Yourself Through God's Eyes by Conrad Hilario

Book Description

You could describe the current state of our culture in two words, identity crisis. Many of us are searching for something solid upon which to secure our identity. Some root their identity in their race or ethnicity. Others take their sense of identity from their political and social views

For a growing number, identity is determined by one's gender or sexuality. This problem of identity is nothing new. We have always tried to define ourselves by the things we have or do. And yet, the issue with constructing our own identity is that it can topple at any moment.

God solved this complicated problem with a simple solution. He's given us a new identity in Christ. This gives us a stable anchor point to which we can attach our identity. Who we are in Christ never changes because God's view of us never changes.

Identity is a month-long, daily devotion designed to help you discover who you are in Christ. Each chapter takes one aspect of your new identity, draws out its significance, and applies it to your life. As you learn more about who you are in Christ, it will transform how you see yourself, others, and reality.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Conrad Hilario is a Senior Pastor at Dwell Community Church in Columbus, Ohio where he oversees a dynamic College Ministry.  He has a bachelor's in history from the Ohio State University and also a master's from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He and his wife, Hilary, have two children.

My Thoughts on the Book

Identity is not about the way we see ourselves, but by seeing ourselves through God's eyes. God solved our identity problem. Identity is a month-long devotional about your change within, based on your following Jesus commands and promises.

Jesus transforms us into a new person when we receive his forgiveness for our sins and accept HIM as our Savior. We learn to trust in his ability to guide us into a much richer life, give us peace even in times of despair, and give us the knowledge of an eternal life.

Identity is well-written book, filled with Biblical truths and scripture, and has end notes at the back of the book stating references for each chapter. The book is a wonderful reminder of who we are in Christ, and our responsibility to spread his love to others.

About the Book

Book: The Red Cottage

Author: Hannah Linder

Genre: Christian Fiction / Historical / Regency Romance

Release Date: November, 2025

She forgot she loved him.
He would die to make her remember.

Meg Foxcroft has never minded the tattling village gossip or her uncle’s ill-tempered rebukes. After all, she has Tom McGwen—and one day, they will build their own cottage, paint it red, and live a wonderful life.

But then the unthinkable happens. Meg is attacked, her uncle’s apothecary shop goes up in flames, and when she wakes up in the arms of an eloquent lord, she remembers nothing. Not even her own name.

In a frantic race against time, Tom plunges into dangerous water, bent on sheltering Meg from harm and discovering who wants her dead. Even if she despises him. Even if it’s now the handsome lord she casts her smile upon.

As danger swells and truth comes crashing around them, Meg must confront the past and decide who she trusts—and loves—before the enemy makes the final strike.

My Review
The Red Cottage is written in perfect Regency style. Meg, due to a traumatic incident, loses all her memory and finds herself at Penrose Abbey with Lord Cunningham and his sick daughter.

The story is very deep and involved, and the characters have many layers. There are lots of twists and turns throughout, which kept me guessing. The story is full of danger, deceit, lies, and secrets.

The romantic part of the story, because of Meg's memory loss, is heartbreaking. Meg & Tom faced one challenge after another. The ending wrapped everything up nicely. This is a book you will remember long after you turn the final page.

I received a complimentary copy from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.

More from Hannah

We’re made for someone. I think I’ve always believed this—that it was never about proximity, or happenchance, or who you know, or where you are.

But that God, in His infinite wisdom, created a second half for each of us.

Someone who fits in the curve of your neck when you hug.

Who laughs at the things you laugh at.

Who speaks to you in a language your soul understands.

I think that’s why I love The Red Cottage so much. Circumstances would have never mattered with Tom and Meg. They loved each other. They were linked. And even if everything had been different, if they had been born hundreds of years before, they would have found their way back to each other.

If the age was ancient Egypt, and he had been a Pharaoh, and she a slave, they would have discovered each other.

If the year was 1920, and he a factory worker, and she the daughter of an oil tycoon, they would have defied the rules of society.

In any other place, in any other time, in any other way, Tom would have loved Meg. And Meg would have loved Tom. That is the beauty and the mind-blowing magic of real love.

So, when you fall into the pages of The Red Cottage, I hope you aren’t so foolish as to imagine this was an accident. That Tom said the right things, or that Meg felt vulnerable in just the right places, and that their bond—both the first and second time—was a mere hapless stroke of luck.

They would have loved each other anyway.

We’re all made for someone.

Review of Courting Love by Jodie Wolfe

Courting Essie, Teddy, and Kitty Love should be easy…

With their surname, they should be primed for romance.
But the three men tasked with wooing these sisters have their hands full.

An Angel for the Cowboy
Jud Steele has no intention of marrying or settling down until he’s hunted for a crime he hasn’t committed. Wounded and left for dead, he lands on Essie Love’s doorstep. While she nurses him back to health, he decides he might change his mind, if the angel caring for him comes along with the deal. How can he persuade Essie to take a chance on a cowboy?

Picking a Bride for Paul
Stuck at home with a broken leg, what’s a fella to do? Paul Baker writes for a bride from back east, like his ma advised before leaving Kansas. His neighbor and best friend, Teddy Love, understands him best, so he trusts her to help him search. But when his potential wife arrives, she can’t compare to Teddy. How can Paul go back and change things before he makes the biggest mistake of his life?

Wooing the Cook
As children, Noah Eldridge mercilessly teased Kitty Love in their local one-room schoolhouse. Ever since, she’s kept her distance from him. He can’t blame her. However, it also means she’s the last person who is likely to come to Noah’s aid when his men threaten to leave the ranch unless he hires a skilled cook. She’s his only hope of keeping his home. What must Noah do to convince Kitty to accept the job, and that he’s always cared for her?

My Thoughts on the Book

Three stories that follow the Love sisters, Essie, Teddy, and Kitty, as each one finds their true love. The sisters are close and look out for each other since their pa died. Each of their matches was a surprise, as they didn't realize the men loved them. Each of the sisters has strong faith and a strong sense of family and work ethic.

The stories are uplifting and inspirational, with plenty of humor. I was caught up in each story from the beginning and highly recommend them. I couldn't stop reading; each one had exciting and unexpected situations. All of them had happy endings. I highly recommend this collection.

I received a complimentary ARC from the author; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.
