High Wire Heartbreak Blog Tour and Giveaway by Anna Schmidt

About the Book

Book: High-Wire Heartbreak

Author: Anna Schmidt

Genre: Christian/Romance/History

Release date: January 1, 2022

In 1936–A party at the Ringling mansion Ca d’Zan in Sarasota, Florida, leads to a robbery–and possibly death.

A successful historical mystery writer, Chloe Whitfield comes to Ca’ d’Zan to research her next novel. Chloe’s fascination with the circus is rooted in family stories of her great-grandmother Lucinda Conroy, who reportedly was a trapeze artist of some renown. She’s heard hints of scandal—and perhaps larceny, but no details.

Chloe’s grandmother—rumored to be Lucinda’s only offspring—was raised in an orphanage and never knew her mother. Intrigued as she is, Chloe has no intent of writing about Lucinda until she sees a poster featuring Lucinda as the star performer for a 70th birthday gala for John Ringling in May of 1936. From there the trail goes cold.

Who was Lucinda and what happened to her?

MY REVIEW
The story revolves around the Ringling Brother's Circus in 1936. The historical details as a backdrop is well done and made me feel as though I was there along with the main characters.

I loved hearing the story of Lucinda Conroy from two different time periods, hers and that of a historical mystery writer, Chloe. Lots of mystery, deception, scandal, and intrigue are included in the storyline to keep me engaged.

A very well-written tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's one of the best stories I've read this year and hated for it to end. Highly recommend.

I received an early copy from the author and voluntarily choose to review it.

More from Anna

It’s hard to split time living between Wisconsin and Sarasota Florida and NOT get caught up in the circus world! The Ringlings are icons in Sarasota where a LOT of things are named for them! But the five circus brothers got their start right here in Wisconsin. So, when the opportunity to create a story for DOORS TO THE PAST came my way, it was pretty much a no-brainer that I would go with John and Mable Ringling’s incredible home, Ca ‘d Zan as the setting. Then somehow, I stumbled on this picture:

and I knew she was my character of Lucinda, the trapeze artist whose story would drive my novel. I hope you fall in love with her—and Chloe—as I did, and most of all I hope you’ll be in touch to let me know what you thought at  http://booksbyanna.com.

HAPPY READING and all best wishes, Anna

My Review
Another great read from Molly. I am always warmed when I read her Amish stories. This one was no exception.

The characters are warm, caring people who go out of their way to help anyone in their community. Magdelina is strong, yet tender-hearted, and close to her parents. Her life is filled with turmoil when she is forced to choose to go against her parent's wishes to be with the man she loves. Is there an answer to keep within the roots of her Amish faith? There seems no way out.

Magdelena's Choice shows a time of struggle, misunderstanding, healing, and finding true love. There are some surprises at the end that I didn't see coming. This book is a wonderfully inspirational and heart-warming tale. I highly recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and willingly choose to review it.

I had the privilege of glimpsing the talent and heart of Sr Crystal Mary Lindsey, and I feel thrilled about her latest masterpiece, "She refused to be The Other Woman."
Domestic violence and abuse continue to be much too familiar in our society, and Sr Crystal's fictional story offers a much-needed warning signal about entering dangerous romantic liaisons. As always, the gift of Sr Crystal Lindsey's writing oozes with romance, suspense, and deep faith with wisdom that springs forth from her rich professional and life experience.

My Review

The story is one of youth, trust, and betrayal; a lesson more than a few have learned the hard way. Erin is no exception, but how she handles it is what makes her different from most.

The author has written a story of heartbreak, but also one showing God's love and redemption and how God opens doors when things seem dark and impossible.  God led Erin to people who would understand her plight and not judge her.

It's a heartwarming and inspirational tale with well-developed characters that you will fall in love with. I'm hoping for a continuation of the story as it ended too soon for me.  Highly recommended.

Silencing the Siren (Ever After Mysteries) by Denise L Barela

SILENCING THE SIREN (EVER AFTER MYSTERIES)

Andrew Grayson thought he had everything… until he met her.

The indulged son of wealthy parents, Andrew has always gotten whatever he wanted almost before he knew he wanted it—clothes, gadgets… even a car! What more could a young man desire?

Enter Annabel Thompson. Freakshow mermaid extraordinaire… in a wheelchair!

Of course, her beauty attracts him. How could it not? Add to that a kind heart, and Andrew can’t help but fall for her.

Annabel’s connection with the freakshow repels his parents and their society friends. They want him to sever all ties with her and his new friends. Oh, and marry the “right” girl with the “right connections.” But he won’t do it. He’ll defy them and marry his little mermaid.

When Annabel turns up missing, declared dead, things don’t add up, Andrew begins asking some difficult questions, the most important being, “What happened to the little mermaid of the Coney Island freak show?”

Find out in this next book in the Ever After Mysteries, combining beloved fairy tales and mysteries. Silencing the Siren offers a retelling of “The Little Mermaid” that will keep you gripped to the edge of your seat as you watch the story unfold.

MY REVIEW

Silencing the Siren is a wonderful addition to the Ever After Mysteries series of books. This is the first I've read from Denise but definitely won't be the last.

Her account of the life of the showmen, a troupe of so-called misfits, held my interest from the beginning. I admired her main characters for their determination to be who they were meant to be. Andrew, a man of privilege in society, but stifled by his parent's ability to control his life, turns to the group of performers and their way of life to learn some precious life lessons. He also finds his heart captured by one of them, Annabelle, a young performer wheelchair-bound. I loved Annabelle's soft-heartedness and her ability to not let her circumstances control who she is.

Plenty of mystery, sweet romance, the emotional build-up to a fantastic ending. Also, plenty of lessons in God's trust and understanding. This one has it all. Highly recommended.

My Review
A lovely tender and also raw fictional tale in what might have happened to the Lost Colony of Roanoke. The story came alive as fiction was melded seamlessly with historical elements.

The Englis planters on a new adventure are thrown into the unknown elements of The New World and lean only on their strength, talents, and faith in God to provide hope for a new beginning. Their lives are met with uncertainty, tragedy, and pain which tests their faith.

Elinor is a haunting story that will run the gamut of your emotions, as you are driven forward to delve into its pages. You won't forget the Lost Colony of 1587, long after you close the last page. Highly recommended.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily choose to review it.

More from Shannon

Why did I write this story? Well, God shoved the opportunity under my nose, and I didn’t want to be guilty of taking the easy way out, by saying no. 😊

Really, while the concept was fascinating, the execution was daunting, and sometimes terrifying. The Elizabethan Era—before the King James Bible and even before Shakespeare was popular! As a student of the Revolutionary War and surrounding times, I felt very much out of my depth.

Though the research sucked me in, it was also daunting. Sifting through various interpretations of the primary accounts and their own speculations on why they felt things must have gone a certain way. Trying to “find” my story amongst all the theories and opinions. Above all, getting to know my characters and letting them come alive in my own imagination.

And come alive, they did—in full color, with a vividness I did not expect. I hope I was able to translate even a portion of what I envisioned to the page, so that you also can see them!

The story is one of many surprises, healing, and second chances. The characters are relatable and the triplet's personalities are heartwarming and fun. The B & B setting is a great background for the story and one I enjoyed reading about. The surprise ending was worth waiting for and wrapped everything up nicely.
